PS3 Streaming over HTTP
Sweet, since some recent firmware update HTTP streaming of media files works, so no more messing about with UPnP Mediaserver streaming, HTTP download or USB flash-sticks to view media files from the closet server. I wonder if Sony will come around and de-cripple the PSP firmware sometime soon as well...
Hmm, or perhaps it already works via remote play.

Blade Runner - The Final Cut
Finally, no voice over and no need to dive for the remote when they enter the elevator. Plus a decent restoration for 1080p crispiness, and some extended or enhanced scenes. Still the unicorn dream though.

The Gathering
Well I guess it's suiting that the only redeeming quality of The Gathering (2002) was Christina Ricci, since the reason I picked the movie was seeing CR was in it while skipping past trailers on some other bad DVD.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Tonight I saw Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest at the cinema. Well worth the while and ticket price. It's got the mother of all swashbuckling scenes, besides more of the flamboyance, sillyness and piratey pirateness to expect from the first one. Yarr!
And then let's hope they give Tia Dalma more screen time in the next PotC. Way hotter than Elizabeth.
By the way: do stay through the end credits.

Team America: World Police (2004) was seen tonight. Thunderbirds meets South Park. Go Trey Parker and Matt Stone!

Psycho remake
A friend lent me a DVD with the 1998 remake of Psycho. It actually was pretty ok, but it was somewhat time period confused because they tried to stay close to the original screen play but make it modern at the same time. So they ended up with a quite messy mix of sixties and nineties at the same time.

Serenity was good. It was very good. Not quite as just right as the series, everything was a tad bit too clean and hightech-looking. It made a very good effort to explain the complex characters and universe without becoming boring to us who already knew the backplot, but still giving depth to the world for those who didn't.
I got the feeling that the movie is a River arc plotline dump that could've stretched over at least the second half of the first season that was never recorded, so there was a bit too much of the good character interaction bits in between that had to go to fit all the plot and action into the two hours less one minute of movie.

Movie delivery day!
I got a copy of Sin City from Amazon today. Funny thing about pre-orders is that by the time it is delivered there's a chance you've forgotten about it and get a surprise DVD in the mail. Kind of fun that way.
Almost as fun as that time I had a Blackstar (RIP) Video Hunt running for several years until one day I got an email saying they had shipped a parcel with TLTCTC.

Just got back from the cinematic experience of the movie of the book of the radio series. Indeed. Greatly good good. Go see. Now I must go download my radio series episode mp3:s to my LifeDrive and revisit the originals while waiting for the DVD release of the movie.
Oh, Trillian's actress Zooey Deschanel also played in Almost Famous. That's why she looked vaguely familiar, besides gorgeous.
And well, the Guide itself was absolutely fantastic.

Film at 21:30. Yup. More graphic violence and darkness. Mmm darkness.

Graphic violence in all its splendor. I really need to read the graphic novels aswell, because the movie rocked.

I'm not completely convinced that FFVII, the movie is really a good thing, but seeing more all-CGI movies appearing is a good thing.
On the other hand, maybe the threat of having the game ending spoiled by the movie will give me the incentive to actually finish the game some time soonish?

SWIII
Piss poor acting. Piss poor characters. Piss poor script. Excellent CGI and SFX, but Padmé Amidala was way cooler in SWII.

In hindsight, the trailer for Sin City that was viewed before the movie left a greater emotional impression than the movie itself.

SWII
It wasn't quite as SAN-squashingly bad as I remembered it. On the other side, Natalie Portman is quite a redeeming quality for a movie.

The real threat
Now I've also finished watching Star Wars Revelations. Just like the STNV, this is a really amazing fan-produced film.
These kind of high quality productions from low budget film teams is what will bring down the big movie companies, not filesharing networks.

I've just seen the first two Star Trek New Voyages episodes. It's that fan made fourth season of the original Star Trek series. Amazing. Go have a look!
